Abba Eban stated that "If Algeria introduced a resolution [at the UN] declaring that the earth was flat and that Israel had flattened it, it would pass by a vote of 164 to 13 with 26 abstentions."

Antisemitic conspiracy theories go back two thousand years or more. In his book "Anti-Judaism," David Nirenberg reports a conspiracy theory from Alexandria in Egypt from before the Christian era, stating that Jews kidnap, fatten up and eat a non-Jew for religious reasons every year. I don't know how to fight something so old and embedded in Western society -- and now global society, as 7 October took antisemitism to places that have essentially no Jews and no history of antisemitism, like China.

Excellent piece, Lucy. We can’t “fight” the proliferation of these conspiracy theories, but we can keep writing about them to expose the contradictions and the utter nonsense they stem from. Keep doing what you’re doing!
